Number One

SO. I have been looking around me , and wondering how I can help people through my life, and I thought that maybe by sharing my struggles and joys with home-schooling I might be able to help other parents like myself. First things first. I am a home-school Mommy! I have two children. A seven year old boy, and a five year old girl. Both of them learn in very different way, and excel at very different thing, which makes being their only teacher seem like a daunting task at times!
Seeing as how today is actually Saturday...we don't have any..um..school..today..which is the whole reason for this blog.
Anyway!  My only adventures for this week were. My son announcing that he has found his future wife (a 12 year-old girl that lives downstairs), and me trying to convince him that maybe he shouldn't go around telling everyone this. It went something like this.
I am sitting on the couch knitting some lace gloves for a charity tea party my Mother is going to. When my son comes bursting through the door, and says "Mommy! I think i just found my future  wife!" . Amused, and puzzled, I ask him to whom he is referring. to which he reply "Sarah! our downstairs neighbor, the big one! " (by big he means eldest) I ask him why he has chosen her. He tells me that it is because she is pretty "Like you Mom!" (my heart melts I am currently on the couch in my gym clothes and a ponytail with no make up..I love my kids!) After the big "aww" I have to try and spare my now GLOWING son some teasing. Lets face it if this girls brothers, did I mention she has 3 of them and that they are all older than my son? No? Well she has 3 older brother and they are all older than my son. In fact the only one in the family my sons age is the youngest girl, but no he couldn't like her! Anyway, on to the saving-saving-his-life-from-teasing part of my story. I sit him down on the ottoman and tell him that maybe he shouldn't tell Sarah that she is going to be his future wife. "Why" ? He asks. He is so past the age of blind faith in all things mommy has to say stage of life..sigh. I am struggling for a way to get my point across without shattering his little heart..did I mention he was GLOWING??? Any way I digress..often. I finally, after hours of deliberating, pondering, and soul searching! OK it was maybe 30 sec tops, but it felt like eternity!  I impart my words of Mommy wisdom.
"Son, you know how Sarah is older?"
"Yes?"
"Well. Sometimes Older girls don't like to be told that you think they are your future wives"
"Why not?"
"...It...makes...them...feel uncomfortable..yeah! It makes them feel uncomfortable! And you don't want to make her feel uncomfortable do you ?" Yes I know this last part was a shameful guilt trip on my part.
"No!"
"OK then. You can feel free to tell her that you think she looks pretty, all girls like that."
"Mommy, how do you know all of this?"
" I'm a girl, so it's my job to know what girls like!"
"OK! Can I tell Daddy?"
"Sure. You can tell Mommy and Daddy anything."
Hopefully we have bypassed ( for now I'm not an idiot and think he will  never get teased for liking a girl) the teasing he would receive from the girls brothers.
P.S. sorry for any errors in this..it's not letting me preview it! and I'm out of Mommy-alone time!
